More Like SLOWbots, right!??

Turns out when you slow down Kraftwerk, it just becomes a more menacing Kraftwerk. Like, these robots move slow, sure, but that's only because they're 900 feet tall and HEAVY

There's a skip near the end of the model. sorry.

So Very, Very Lazy

Here's Machine Head from Deep Purple, slowed down to 16rpm. This album has some of the most iconic riffage in the classic rock library, and now you can enjoy it without all that hurrying.

The White Album

It's hard to know what to say about the Beatles' self titled "White Album". So I won't say much. Go find a book if you want to know all about its societal impacts or deeper meanings or musical techniques. There's plenty of information out there for the curious. What we're interested in here is playing it very, very slow. So that's what I did.
The White Album, all 4 sides, at 16rpm

A note on sound quality: I bought my well used copy of this album for $4, so there's some issues. I make a point to not touch-up recordings on this blog, so you sometimes get hisses, pops, clicks, maybe even a skip or two. Sometimes you get a lot of those things (though if an album were skipping too badly I'd abandon it for this project). What I'm saying is appreciate it for what it is, and go do it yourself if these things bother you too much.

The Way I Walk: Slowly

Ah yes, The Cramps. Here we have in it's full, slow glory, the first 12" EP from the seminal garage-punk/psychobilly rockers. Five tracks of sludgy, howling rock and roll. I don't think there's much more that need be said, other than go buy a copy of this masterpiece for yourself.

This is normally where I'd put a link to buy the mp3 of the original record, but it's not available online (at least in any official capacity). Instead, as The Cramps' website recommends, go donate money to Lux's favorite charity Best Friends Animal Society

Starting slowly with Crock

Since this blog is for getting weird with music anyway, I figure hey, let's start with some weird music. Crock is Sam Coomes of Quasi and Spencer Seim of Hella. Grok is a great, crazy, noisy, thumping, pulsing screeching album that's very much worth your money. You know, if you're into that.

blah blah intro post blah blah

Hi I'm Max. I use my Sony HP-150 stereo phonograph to playback vinyl records at 16rpm. I've been doing this for quite a while for personal enjoyment, and I figured hey, put this slow shit online.

I call the blog 16rpm Demons because my first thought when I started doing this was 'Holy shit, this sounds like it crawled out of hell'

For now, all selections will come from my personal record collection, as that's what I've got handy. Usually full albums, sometimes single songs. Depends how I feel. Make requests if you like, but chances are I won't have what you're looking for.

I should be updating once a week or so.
